Modern Day Beowulf
I cant take full credit for thinking of today's modern day Beowulf, my brother helped me with this one. He suggested that Iron Man is the modern day Beowulf, and I couldn't agree with him more. Although Iron Man is also a fictional character, he acts as Beowulf would, just in a more contemporary manner. They are both driven by justice and the fight against evil. Beowulf fights for the Pietas- his God, Family, and Country. Iron Man also follows a silimar list. He fights to protect his wife and Counrty. Although Beowulf fights with a group of men, he still takes down Grendel and other monsters by himself. Iron Man many times fights with help from the army, but in the end is also the one that takes down the bad guy by himself. The main reason why I chose Iron Man over any other super hero is because of his large amount of confidence. Most of Beowulfs character is defined by his over flow of confidence. Both heros do not set any limits for themselves and believe that they can do anything. This ends up not helping either of the characters. Beowulf was left dead and Iron Man nearly excapse with his life in every movie/comic.

Haha I thought this post was similar to mine because I did a superhero too, Superman. Most heros fight for the same causes, I think, which are for country and justice. Beowulf can definitly be compared to a hero because of his drive to protect his country and people. His confidence and pride give him additional strength, which he needs in order to beat Grendel. And he does. Beowulf shows the characteristics of any modern day hero whether it be a real person or fictional character.The same morals are shown to be evident in all heros alike.
ReplyDeleteJust like Natalie I also did a super hero, Batman. We all did Super heroes and im pretty sure many others did too but the bigger question is.. Is Beowolf a hero or a legend? In the movie Sandlot, Babe ruth said "Heroes get remembered but legends never die" which makes me rethink my Modern day Beowulf post. Reading your post made me switch out Batman and put Babe Ruth in his place for the modern day beowulf. I would say Babe Ruth has all the characteristics as Ironman.
