Waking Up in an ER
Beep, beep, beep I woke up to the sounds of one of those weird heart things they have in hospitals. But why was I in the hospital. I had a throbbing head ace. There were cards all around my bed. In the crowd of cards there was a football. I took off the IV connected to my arm and grabbed the football. The feel of the football felt so good, but a little foreign. Ever sense I’ve been born I haven’t gone a week without the touch of a football. So when it didn’t feel right I knew something was up. The football said, “Great Game wake up soon” in my coach’s handwriting. What happened to me and how did I end up hear. Then I took a better look at the football and underneath my coaches handwriting in gold print it read “Illinois State Champions Game” Then it all hit me.
It was the fourth quarter; we were down by three with seconds left. All we needed was a field goal to tie it up and go into overtime, but our team wasn’t going to settle for that. We wanted the win and we wanted right then and there. We went with a Hail Mary Pass to the end zone. As I walked up to the line I already knew the ball was going to me. The center spiraled the ball back to the quarterback and I took off like California Chrome. I was nearing goal line, so I knew he had to be throwing the ball soon. Just as I predicted the ball was launched in the air. The ball made it just short of the goal line. I put both my hands on it. But my job wasn’t done yet I had to take another step to cross the line. I lowered my shoulder and took the step we needed to win. Then BOOM! I was blind sided by the defense. There was a white flash, and then everything went black.
But who won? Did I score? As a looked down at my finger in my hospital bed there was a gold championship ring that I’ve never seen before.
